What is Film Distribution?
The distribution of a film or movie is the process through which a movie is made available to watch for an audience. This task may be accomplished in a variety of ways, for example, with a theatrical release, a home entertainment release in which the movie is made available on DVD-video or Blu-Ray disc or as a TV broadcast. The distribution company makes a legal agreement with the creator(s) of film or movie enabling them full rights to the film ideas which lets them use the movie in anyway they wish.

The distribution company also brokers the deal with cinemas to make the number of copies of the film that the theatres need. This agreement  also includes the payment that the cinemas owe the distribution company for the possession of the film.

What is Horizontal & Vertical Integration?
Horizontal integration indicates the acquisition of competitors in the same section of an industry.
Vertical integration indicates the control of three main areas of production, distribution and exhibition. Such as the, Time warner and AOL merge.
What was the Hollywood 'studio system' like in the 1930's and 40's?
The studio system was a means of film production and distribution dominant in Hollywood from the early 1920s through the 1950s. The term studio system refers to the practice of large motion picture studios. The first thing people think of is producers and how these people shaped Hollywood. The Studio System during the 1930s strangled independent cinema and took such great liberties to turn a profit that creativity was severely compromised. The Studio System was run by the producer's that worked within it, and the films that they produced were under their total control.
