Mise-en-Scene

Independent Task

1) In this particular image, the mise-en-scene consists of a Old ancient looking house based right in the middle of what looks the woods and also a graveyard as tombstones are seen in the front garden. The use of dark colours in the image, such as grey, brown and black suggests that it is rundown and connotes that trouble is sorrounded the house which in turn creats a very mistfying atmosphere.

The fact that there is only one light one in the house, even further creates an intense atmosphere and creates suspense, in turn making the audience think, "who lives there!?"

The graveyard infront of the house further creates a spooky setting and the misty weather and trees futher creates suspense.

2)
The mise-en-scene for this extract from the film Takers, includes a 5 star hotel. With the characters wearing Smart suits and clothing which suggests they are rich. The mise-en-scene also includes a bank with terrifyed people laying down on the floor with intimidating characters firing guns. Also, we see a glass shatter due to gun fire which suggests the robbers are serious and even more creates suspense and terrifys the people in the bank. The genre of this film is a Drama/Action and is targeted at the 16-24 year old demographic.

3)
This particular Film extract is from the movie 2010 blockbuster G.I. Joe. The genre of G.I Joe is action the Mise-en-scene in the film extract shows many characters holding weapons which connote to possible audiences that the film is an action movie. Which it is, as it is targeted at a 16-24 demographic.

The colours used in the Mise-en-scene are mostly dark colours which denotes that trouble will occur within the film.In the mise-en-scene we also see a contrast in colour to represent which characters are evil and which are good. We see this in film extract as characters based in lighter backgrounds suggest to the audience that they are the good characters. However on the other side the characters in dark colours connote to the audience that they are evil.

4)

This film extract is from the hit film Twilight. The genre of this film is romance/ fantasy. The Mise-en-scene could suggest a love triangle due to the way the characters are positioned within the film extract. We see this when one of the main characters Jacob is shown to protect the female character Bella. Also within the mise-en-scene the candles connote a romance as it sets a light hearted scene.

Furthermore, as the two main characters Jacob and Edward look at the camera indirectly, this suggests rivalry due to the characters facial expressions.
